04. Berlin:

Female bricklayers
There is a shortage of bricklayers everywhere. Therefore, eight bricklayers schools have been opened in Berlin in which men and women receive a quick and thorough course in this important craft. A quarter of the pupils are women.
Brief theoretical instruction is followed by eight weeks of practical training. The handling of bricks is not quite as easy it looks.
The next stage is four months at a building yard. Women are never assigned to jobs which would tax their strength too severely. Most of the women have to work for their own and their children's livelihood as their husbands were killed in the war or are still in P.W. camps.
Already while working as assistants they are entitled to workers ration tickets.

05. The Creation of Cardinals
For the first time since the war St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome is scene of full pageantry: The creation of 32 new Cardinals.
The newly created Cardinals - among them three Germans - receive the Red Hats from the Pope and kiss his ring and shoe.
The Sacred College now includes 70 members, 42 of whom are non-Italians: the Chinese Cardinal Tien: is one of them.
After the blessing the Pope is carried out of St. Peter's in the golden chair accompanied by the whole of the Sacred College of Cardinals.

06. Science Helps Disabled Soldiers
Everywhere new methods are sought and found to assist to find their way back to normal life and useful occupation.
In this American institute the doors open to them by means of /an optical-mechanical device. The men receive instruction in various professions. This is the watch-makers department. In Germany the manufacture of artificial limbs is improving steadily.
This factory in Holstein, f.i., developed an entirely new method of construction of artifical joints. Doctors and nurses help the invalids on their way back to every-day life.
Courses and exercises further the feeling of physical security.
They learn how to work - and how to play, too.

07. Shanhhai Carnival
Shanghai bursts out into Carnival mood to celebrate the first happy Chinese New Year after an eight year war. For five days and five nights Chinatown lets the festivities rip. Thousands crowd the temples and overflow into the streets in the rush to pay their respects to the God of Riches and Prosperity.
High-point of the festivities is a rickshaw race through the city streets. The winner gets as a prize a box of cigarettes and, of course, a wreath of honour.

08. Two Trials

Nuremberg and Mauthausen
In Nuremberg, the American Chief Prosecutor Jackson demands, in an impressive speech, the indictment of the accused Organisations.
Jackson declares that the Nazi-Regime did not only consist in the tyranny of the defendants in the box.
"A thousand little Fuehrers dictated, a thousand imitation Goerings strutted, a thousand Schirachs incited the youth, a thousand Saukels worked slaves, a thousand Streichers and Rosenbergs stirred up hate, a thousand Kaltenbrunners and Franks tortured and killed, a thousand Schachts, Speers and Funks administered, supported and financed this movement."

Chief Prosecutor Jackson then explains how these Organisations roused the evil instincts of the people.
"The flowering of this system is pepresented in the fanatical SS-General Ohlendorf who told this tribunal without shame or trace of pity how he personally directed the putting to death of 90'000 men, women and children. No tribunal ever listened to a recital of such
whole-sale murder as this tribunal heard from him".

Finally, the Chief Prosecutor declared: "These defendants powerful harm is passed. They are discredited men. Now, it is time, to strike the Organisations."
60 members of such Organisations, all guards of the notorious concentration camp Mauthausen in Lower Austria, are brought to trial in Dachau. Before the trial openes the bill of indictment is read and distributed.
The prosecution accuses them of having tortured and killed hundreds of thousands of civilians and PWs. The bill of indictment enumerates twelve different ways of killing. The accused have to hand over their suspenders and boot-laces in order to avoid suicides.

09. Reviving Industry
The former "Volkswagen"-works at Fallersleben have resumed the production of motorcars.. The plant, heavily damaged in the war, has been fully repaired. About 18'000 workers are employed here and in incidental industries. Orders and sufficient rawstock ensure constant production.
The output is distributed by the Military Government to certain departments of the Occupation Forces and to vital German industries. These cars are specially made for the German postal authorities.
