In midst this vast crowd, the kids celebrate the May-day in their own fashion.
And in thousands of small towns and villages May-day was observed according to treasured and traditional custom - as here in Gruenwald near Munich. The May-pole is erected. This one is 28 meters high and will remain here for five years.

02. New Steps To Ease Food Shortage In Europe
The United States are increasing and accelerating their efforts to bring relief to the needy people of Europe. As in so many other suffering countries the children of Italy are starving. UNRRA brings them the most essential food: for the rescue of the children is the most urgent task of any relief-campaign.
In America, 200 000 head of cattle are earmarked for export to Europe in order to help rebuild the destroyed and scattered herds of the old world.
The Americans are reducing their own needs to meet the overseas demands.
Horses, too, are being shipped abroad - the first of 300 000 to be exported ... to help work the farms in wartorn areas of Europe.

03. Transformation of airfields
The fallow acres of many German airfields are now in process of redeployment for peaceful and useful purposes.
Thus, the former Wertheim airdrome in Baden is being transformed into a settlement for Hungarian- and Sudeten-German refugees. A Parish of about 4000 inhabitants is visualised with its own school, church and hospital and an earthenware industry as its economic basis. Meanwhile the former hangars and administration buildings are being converted into houses, workshops and stables.
The fields are ploughed - the seeds are sown - and the land bears fruit again.
Another settlement arose on the former airfield of Memmingen in the Allgäu. Here UNRRA has housed 2.500 displaced Lithuanians, Letts and Esthonians. In a year hard work the Baltic families have transformed the derelict camp into a comfortable village - with gardens, playgrounds and kindergartens.

In western New York state, the best of American bowlers meet in the world's championship tournament.
35 000 experts watch the 3 month contest in the huge bowling alley.

b. Cup Final, England

Another attack: goal! 3 : 1, and yet another score. With 4 : 1 Derby County romps home.
The King presents the treasured cup to the proud and breathless Derby captain, but Charlton has well earned the Finalist medals they receive from the hand of the Queen.
A match that will live on as a memorable game in the history of football.

a. Balloon-ascent, Paris
On occasion of a congress of the French Aviation Corporation 7 balloons take off from the Place de la Concorde for an aerial race and long distance flight.
