Bridges across Rhine and Neckar
After eight months work the South-Bridge in Cologne - destroyed in January 1945 - has been restored and was now formally inaugurated.
In presence of many guests of honour General Thomas, Commander of the British Army of the Rhine, openes the bridge which was built by a British Railway Construction Unit together with German workers.
Later, the bridge which at present is only single-tracked will be enlarged to doubletracks. The 600 yards long bridge is one of the most important connections in the German and European trafficsystem.

For the first time since the end of the war the Olympia-Stadium in Berlin is scene of a big sportive event.
A team of the British Occupation Forces - mostly professional players - meets the crack home-team Sheffield United (black shorts) which is leading in the British league.
High ranking officers and many soccer fans of all nationalities attend the match, as well as a large number of sportloving Berliners.
After a technically excellent game the soldier-team won 5 : 1.

b. Billy Conn, USA
Before signing up for the world heavy-weight contest title-holder Joe Louis and his challerger Billy Conn are examined by the doctors and then weighed in.

Death sentence for Karl Hermann Frank
K.H. Frank, former SS-Chief of police and Statesminister for Bohemia and Moravia was sentenced to death by hanging.
Frank was found gulity of the overthrowing of the Czech constitution by force and of the ordering and committing of numberless crimes against law and humanity. The annihilation of the village Lidice and the mass-murder of its inhabitants was only one of them.
These are the last pictures of the trial. Three hours after the pronouncement of the sentence Frank was hanged.

07. Each day 150.000 of pencils
Ten Bavarian pencil factories, among them the world's largest, Faber Castell in Nuremberg, have resumed production.
Reconstruction work was carried out with zest and vigour and to-day already 150.000 pencils are produced each day.
Formerly foreign wood - particularly cedar - was used for pencil production but now the pencils are made mostly of native woods such as alder and pine.
The lead strips are filled into the wooden holders partly by machines partly by hand.
Before the war a large part of this factory's output was exported.
Now, only the most urgent inland requirements for lead and coloured pencils can be covered.
