The spectators had a cold but good time and were glad to be present at this significant premiere.

General McNarney's speech on the Römerberg
In Frankfurt o/Main the Commander in Chief of the US forces in Europe, General McNarney, adressed the German population on the Römerberg in the heart of the old city.
Town-mayor Kolb was among the guests of honour.
Looking back on the past year General McNarney recalled the progressive establishment of democratic institutions, the educational problem, the supply situation, and the economic union of the American and British Zones.
Above all he proclaimed the extention of the youth-amnesty concerning more than 800.000 persons, who are not seriously incriminated and who have not profited financially by the Third Reich. Certain groups of war-disabled men also fall under this amnesty which, in General McNarney's words, should incite the beneficients of it to pursue the ways of democracy.

03. Göttingen:

Five Nobel-Prize-Winners
After receiving the Nobel-Prize in Stockholm Professor Hahn returned to Göttingen, where four German former Nobel-Prize-Winners congratulate him: Professor Windaus, Professor von Laue, Professor Heisenberg and Geheimrat Professor Max Planck, the Nestor of German scientists. All these world-famous scientists are now working in Göttingen.
Professor Hahn was awarded the Nobel-Prize already in 1944 for his work in the field of Uranium research, a branch of atomic science.

United Nations
After seven weeks concentrated work the general assembly of the United Nations closed their session in New York. The meeting was highly successful.
One of the last days of the conference brougt a speech by the former US Minister of State Byrnes in which he declared: "We want to be the partners of all nations not to make war but to preserve peace."

On March 10, the foreign ministers will meet in Moskow in order to discuss the German peace treaty. Before the termination in New York the General Assembly decided to elect New York as permanent site of the UN. The conference buildings will be located in a central part of New York. A whole architecturally antiquated row of blocks along the river will be pulled down and rebuilt to give way for the building of the United Nations.
The conference members parted in a satisfied and optimistic mood. Before embarking on the "Queen Elizabeth" British foreign minister Bevin declared that many difficulties and misunderstandings had been removed and that the foundation for a permanent peace was now definitely loid.

05. Irish cattle for Berlin
Also Ireland helps to case Berlin's food situation. The first transport of 200 head of cattle arrived on the steamer "Travemünde" in Bremen harbor. The "Travemünde", sailing under the American flag, is the first ship with a German crew commanded by a German Captain to reach a foreign harbor after the war.
The loading of the cattle - from the quay directly into the goods-train, and then to Berlin.
This shipment was the first part of a total of 2.000 head of cattle from Ireland. Further transports are expected in the next weeks.

06. The Viennese Boy Choir in Hamburg
21 small excited boys in Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg. This is an unacustomed view of the famous Viennese Boy's Choir which is now on its first post-war international tour. From Hamburg they go to Berlin, then to France, Spain and England.
The choir was inaugurated in 1472. The young singers live in the boarding school of the Viennese "Hofburg" and have - of course - to do their school-lessons besides their singing. Every one of them is a picked soloist. Five to six boys have to leave each year on account of muting of the voice.

a. Milch tried in Nuremberg
At Nuremberg, together with the doctor's trial, the case against the former Fieldmarshal and Inspector General of the German Airforce, Erhard Milch, has opened. Before an American Military Tribunal he has to face charges of war-crimes and crimes against humanity.
The indictment accuses him i.a. of having participated in the forced abduction of 5 millions of foreign workers and in the shooting of allied P.W. fliers; his participation is based on his former position as a leading member of the "Central Planning".
Prosecutor Denny outlined in his opening speech the personality and career of the accused and declared: "Milch chose the way of the least resistance and thus became one of the evil spirits who cast the shadow of war and crime over Germany and the world."

b. Parcels for PW's in Jugo Slavia
By arrangement of the International Red Cross in Geneva the Austrian and German Red Cross sent a gift train to PW's in Jugo Slavia. In Salzburg the parcels are loaded on a train which then takes the Tauern route to the border station of Rosenbach. In Rosenbach the train is taken over by a delegation of the Jugo Slav Red Cross.

They give thanks for the parcels, the greeting and gifts from home.

c. London Subway, England
In the East of London a new subway line of 7 kilometers distance was inaugurated. Transport Minister Barnes opens the line which - in future - will see a regular four minute-service.
This is what the London Subway looks like during the rush hours congested trains, platforms, rolling stairs.
Various Improvements of the transportation system above and belong ground, now under way, will bring considerable relief of present traffic-troubles.

a. All-in-Wrestling, Paris
This all-in-wrestling match is odd in many respects:

All you need is: for the girls a nice figure, for the men dash and style - both combined produce an aesthetic and certainly odd entertainment.
The underwater-polo is a popular new pastime in California - and it takes place in complete silence - a real blessing.

c. Yet propelled skis
This more noisy but no less odd. An over-ambitous sportsman has constructed a pair of yet-propelled skis - for a better take-off.
Hardly a successful venture, it seems.
The motorized skier lumbers ahead trailing a funereal smoke screen after him and the hazardous expedition ends with a big crash-landing.
