Cross-examination of Ilse Koch

a. Goethe's House, Frankfurt/Main
Goethe's house at the Grosse Hirschgrabenstreet in Frankfurt o/Main was destroyed during the war.
On the occasion of Goethe's 200th birthday in August 1949, it is slated for reconstruction.
The new building was started with ceremony. Frankfurt's burgomaster- in- Chief Kolb made the opening speech, and gave the first symbolic hammer-blows.

The world's largest organ is in this cathedral. It was built in 1924 - 1928. Five organs make up this great one.

Now-a-days ponies are very useful animals. They are strong and frugal, and qualify for many tasks in which their small shape is desireable. There is a stud for ponies in Holstein. Every year the rising generation works outside with their mothers.
Iceland and the Shetland Isles are the homes of the ponies. But here, too, they grow well. On an average ponies reach double the age of their brothers, the horses, living sometimes up to 50 years.
At first the troubles of life are far away for the young ponies. They try to take small obstacles - Mama shows how, but they do not have the courage yet.
Well ... Well done!
Now the realities of life. Some ponies tage up an artistic career. Hagenbeck's Children Circus has several ponies on which little acrobats show their tricks.
Others become useful in the country and in town. Needing only a small quantity of food, they toil hard, and can draw five times their own weight.

With Wife and Child to Germany
The Norwegian ship "Svalbard" brought the last German POWs and civilian internees home from Norway.
In Hamburg the homecomers step ashore.
Many of the former German soldiers married in Norway. Their wives follow them to Germany, although the Norwegians were allowed to stay in their home country if they wished.
Many of the wives are mothers.
The men were allowed to work in Norway, and are permitted to take their earnings back to Germany. A bus brings them into a camp - and from there they start the journey home into the different Zones. The men meet again their old homes - their wives and children become acquainted with their new surroundings.

07. News Flashes from Everywhere:

a. Mississippi Floods, USA
Five North American States were hit by flood catastrophies greater than any on record.
Mississippi and Missouri together with their branches overflowed their banks.
40.000 people last their homes. Here, in St. Louis the streets become channels. Engineers of the U.S. Army and dam experts have built up new dikes which finally brought the floods to a stop.
In the flood districts 400.000 hektars of farmland were ruined. With a total damage reaching 500 million dollars this menace was the severest one to strike the U.S.A. for more than 100 years.

b. Eros, London
After eight years one of London's landmarks, the statue of the God Eros was brought back. Little beauty-spots had to be fixed which injured Eros during his absence.
And then the bronze god is lifted gently up by a block-and-tackle to his old place in Picadilly Circus in the heart of London.
Traditional summer rain cannot prevent the Londoners from attending this long-expected performance.
