Eighteen months ago a farmer found a newly born stag near Lübeck. He brought the little stag up and to-day "Hansi" belongs to the home, like the dog and the cat, and is a good friend to everybody. He goes to the fields, accompanies the farmer's wife making errands, and takes a nap in the house. "Moritz" the cat und "Lilli" the dachshund have a comfortable seat on "Hansi", in Garden of Eden like harmony.

02. Grease from Coal
For the first time in chemical history the German Fettsaeure Plant in Witten-Ruhr was succeeded in making artificial butter on a large scale. When coal is chemically treated a by-product (Paraffin-Gatsch) is obtained which, together with glycerine, becomes artificial butter of the same quality as real butter. Until now this by-product was not used. 7 tons of coal give 1 ton of fat - - while 70 tons of coal have to be exported in order to buy one ton of fat on the world markets. The inventor, Dr. Imhausen, offers a sample. Fettsaeure, the same by-product of coal, together with vegetable or animal fats, is used to make soap. Until butter-production can be started the Fettsaeure is used in the soap factories. The soap-puly leaves the press, is separated, molded and packed. This soap is allocated to miners first. So the miners actually wash themselves with - coal.

a. The Flying Flounder
This new American plane has but one wing. Its shape gave it the name of the "Flying Flounder."
This machine can fly very slowly - about 60 kilometers P.H., and also very fast - - up to 600 kilometers P.H..

1st International Football Game
The 1st international post-war football meeting was held in Hannover. A team of the British Rhine Army and team from the British Zone met in the Stadium. A good game exhibiting 1st class technique resulted. The British in white shirts. Here are some shots of the match: the ball bources off the goal bar. a. IG Farben Trial
At present the Nuremberg Palace of Justice is the scene of the trial against 24 directors of the IG Farben Company. The bill of indictment charges - among other accusations - participation in wars if aggressions and crimes against humanity by enslavement of foreign workers. Many Russians have lived for years in Shanghai; some were born there. Now they enter the ship which is going to bring them home. A priest blesses all before the ship leaves.

c. Sir Sholto Douglas in Essen
Air Marshal Sir Sholto Douglas, Commander-in-Chief of the British Occupation Forces, opened "Die Brücke", an English Reading Hall, for the Germans in Essen. Sir Sholto Douglas said that this reading hall was to give the Germans impartial information and help them to improve their knowledge of the foreign situation. Besides German and foreign newspapers and weeklies "Die Brücke" presents a library of 1.000 volumes and a music library, too. Sir Sholto douglas also met a group of American members of Congress. The Congresmen are in Europe to study the needs of the several countries under the Marshall Plan. In Munich, they were welcomed by General Muller, Chief of Military Government for Bavaria.

To-day, in town and in country people help themselves with what means they have - - and plenty of ingenuity. This youngster in a small village in Upper Bavaria, still going to school, established a carrier's business in his leisure time. He started his business when he was 8 years old, during the war. His father, a carter, was in the army. Meanwhile this industrious chap has bought a vehicle and two horses from his 4-years-profits. And he also has some money on the bank. You see, here a man helpshimself - - and with that he helps other people, too.
Another way of resolving problems: in Austria roof tilers had the idea of using empty cans for roofing. The cans are cut [...] flattened and then fastened to the roof. Paint is applied against rust. It is only a make-shift device but better than having rain dropping into the house.
And now a "burning" problem: how to get tobacco? This is one way - and an often used one. But the ones who grow their own tobacco have a much better time. Tobacco grows wherever you want it. Every tobacco planter has his own secret recipies of drying and preparing tobacco.
A friendly man takes an interest in your tobacco garden - but, alas, he is an officer of the tax bureau, When the gardener hears "tax" he gets hard of hearing.
