02. Hildesheim:

Surviving Works of Art
Hildesheim, once called the Rothenburg of the North, was heavily damaged during the war. The cathedral is destroyed. Only one part of the beautiful Roman cloister, which surrounds St. Anne's Cemetery was saved. In it grows the famous thousand-year-old rosebush w[...]ch was cleaned from rubble. After an old legend Hildesheim will live as long as the rose bush has green leaves. St. Anne's Chapel contain unique, centuries-old precious things. 04. Modern technique:

a. Grain silos
Modern technique meanes inventive technique. In the harbour of Gelsenkirchen submarine bodies are used to build grain-silos. At the beginning of 1945 the submarine parts were to be shipped to the war docks, but the Allies' advance prevented it. The British government gave the permission to utilize the parts. Here a 40-meter-high silo with a capacity for 2 million kilograms of grain, made out of 76 submarine parts.

b. Building material of peat
Peat is used nowadays as building material. The large peat bogs of North West Germany deliver the rawmaterial which is brought to a former brick factory. The peat is ground and dried, then it is pressed to plates. The plates are used as walls, for isolation, and even to make furniture. It can be handled like wood. A new, precious material: peat.

c. MAN steel house
Pre-fabricated houses are an important programme of German industrie. To relieve the housing shortage the new homes are made in a factory and then put together where you want the house. This MAN steel house is constructed of ready made parts. The construction and the walls are made of steel. For the inner walls plates are used, glasswool insulates the house like a brick wall. As soon as the rawmaterial shortage is over, this house will[...] produced on a large scale. It can be assembled within a day and you can take it with you when you move.

05. Animals from Everywhere
