The war between Tschiang Kai Scheck's troops and the Chinese Communists moves towards its decision. 300 kilometers north of Naking almost 600,000 soldiers of the National Chinese Forces are surrounded. There are heavy battles on all fronts. The governmental troops captured Russian heavy machine guns and Czech weapons with which the Communist armies were equipped. New defensive plans are shaped, new measures sought for to avoid disaster in the last hour.

a. New York
Since 1945 the wreck of the 23.000 ton Hapag steamer "New York" lies on the bottom of the Kieler Förde. Now the ship is lifted to utilize the immense quantity of scrap metal. First the ship is brought into a normal position, huge cranes lift the vessel and then the ship rises out of the water. It es estimated that 15.000 tons of old metal will be gained by dismanteling the ship.

b. Wireless Messages
The Oversea-radio-station of Lüchow receives and sends more than 40.000 words a week from and to South America, Spain, Portugal. Outgoing telegrams are forwarded via Hamburg to this station, Incoming telegrams are teletyped to the German Post Offices. Telephone service to Brazil and Argentine was resumed, too. Other South American Countries will follow. Over thousands of kilometers one can communicate again, another bridge between Germany and abroad.

c. Musical kids

Even in winter the air-lift is being improves. These British Hastings-Machines arrived at a Schleswig airfield. From there they fly in one hour to British airfield Gatow near Berlin. These heavy plane can transport a load of 7 1/2 tons. The Hastings planes - efficient and reliable are just what the doctor ordered for the present severe winter flying conditions. At Tempelhof airfield an interesting guest arrived from Amerikca. Thornton Wilder whose plays are well known in Germany: "Our town" and "The skin of our teeth". Titania-Palace in Berlin-Steglitz: The free University in the West-Sectors is opened. Outstanding personalities of political and cultural life attended.
