In a solemn proclamation President Truman proclaimed a State of National Emergency. Under the pressure of continuing Communist aggressions in Korea President Truman ordered urgent measures for the security of free nations: the raising of military forces and increasing production. President Truman also announced the principles of American policy: renewed dedication of America to the principles of freedom and justice, which are the principles of the United Nations also. 02. The Winter-War in Korea
These dramatic pictures show American units encircled by the overwhelming Red Chinese army. After a hard fight, they succeeded in breaking through and joining the other UN-troops. Storm and icy weather attack the UN troops on their march, A short sleep in ice and snow during a pause. Transportation planes land on improvised airfields. Wounded soldiers are flown to the harbours of South Korea and Japan. Other planes drop food and amunition for the encircled units. For the first time in the history of the airforce a complete bridge is dropped - piece by piece. The war in Korea during the bitter winter is a new chapter in the fight of the free nations against aggression.

a. Nobel Prize Winners
At Stockholm, King Gustaf of Sweden presented the Nobel Prizes for 1950. It was the 50th time that outstanding scientists and artists from all over the world were honoured in this important event. 30 Nobel Prize winners assembled at the Swedish capital to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Nobel Prize foundation. The German scientists Professor Diehls and Professor Alder were among them. Dr. Ralph Bunche, USA, the first negro ever to receive the Peace Nobel Prize, received it in Oslo.

b. A Plan for the Youth of the Bundes Republic
At Bonn, Bundes Chancellor Dr. Adenauer announced the "Plan for the Youth of the Bundes Republic", an action for promoting German youth. 53 million D-Marks were set aside for this plane. Schools, workshops and houses for the youth will be built. The international youth exchange will be strengthened. Bundes President Heuss spoke against the idea of a State youth. He said "It is our wish that German youth grows into free Germans."

c. Jungle Girl from Malaya
Bertha Hertogh, the so-called "Jungle Girl" arrived in the Netherlands. In Malaya the 13-year old Dutch girl was married to a young Mohammedan teacher by her native nurse. After a long law suit, the mother of the girl took the girl away with her. This decision led to serious rioting by the natives against the white population.

a. A Stroll through the Streets
Santa Claus, toys - this is again the great time for small children. A stroll through the streets during December becomes an adventourous journey through a fairy-tale land. The charm of the pre-Christmas time is as eternal as the belief in Santa Claus. The reality becomes a fairy-tale and fairy-tales become reality.

b. A Creche for Paul G. Hoffman
On behalf of all German children, four children gave thanks for the help of ERP. At Washington, they presented a Munich creche to the former ERP Administrator Paul G. Hoffman. The present was an expression of gratitude from all German children. (Original Sound)

c. Donation of Feathers for Beds
A pre-Christmas delight for the old and sick. The youth of the Bavarian Red Cross called on the school-children of the villages to collect feathers for beds. The result was a great measure of relief for the needy inhabitants of the asylums. The old women removed the quills and will have a new warm bed for Christmas.

05. Sports

a. Handball
North Germany vs. South Germany. North Germany won the Handball Trophy for 1950. The spectators in the overcrowded stadium at Wuppertal saw a balanced final. North Germany (dark shorts) had better forwards, South Germany's backs weren't quick enough to stop the attackers and so lost the title. North Germany won 9:7 and won the highest trophy in Handball.

b. Ice Hockey: Füssen vs. Riessersee
An important match for the German Ice Hockey Championship in Munich, Prinzregenten Stadium. ESV Füssen vs. SC Riessersee. Riessersee white shorts. Both teams played a turbulent game. Neither team could score a goal during the first third. The leading goal for Füssen was shot in the second third. The last third was a very dramatic one. The score is 2:2. A few minutes before the end Füssen scored another goal and won 3:2.
