Freddy Quinn’s 90th Birthday 90(* September 27, 1931)

Freddy Quinn is the epitome of the "singing sailor" and one of the most successful and versatile entertainers of the early Federal Republic.

In a career spanning more than 50 years, he has performed as a singer, actor, entertainer and circus performer. He has sold more than 60 million records and received countless awards - including 17 gold records, 16 Lions from Radio Luxemburg, two "Golden Bambis" and a "Golden Screen".

No one else conveyed the longings of the post-war generation like he did. He landed six number 1 hits between the mid-1950s and mid-1960s, with the titles "Heimweh", "Heimatlos", "Der Legionär", "Die Gitarre und das Meer", "La Paloma" and "Junge, komm bald wieder". He even enacted the figure of the lonely seafarer, so often sung about in his songs, in a series of musical films. The title role of "Freddy" was written specifically for him. He starred alongside well-known actors such as Heidi Brühl and Heinz Erhardt.

In "Heimweh nach St. Pauli" he even co-starred with Hollywood star Jayne Mansfield. Freddy Quinn also appeared in musicals such as „Der Junge von St. Pauli“ or „Große Freiheit Nr. 7“, as well as in operettas, in folk theatre plays and, last but not least, in the circus.

Having spent some time with the travelling circus as a teenager, he dazzled his audience in TV galas like "Stars in the Manege", high-wire acts being his specialty. Later he became a host of tv shows "Zirkus, Zirkus" and "Manegen der Welt".

In the mid 60s his success curve began to wane, yet Freddy Quinn continued to be present on the world's stages and screens  over the next few decades. Among other things, he recorded almost a dozen country albums and presented his own television show, "It's Country Time. In 2005 he went on the farewell tour "Memories" to say goodbye to his audience. Ever since he has mostly kept out from the public eye.
